Our skin is a protective shield, mood indicator, sensory organ, temperature and humidity regulator at the same time. And the organ is increasingly busy, because the exposure to external influences increases. So it happens that more and more people suffer from skin diseases such as acne, neurodermatitis, psoriasis (psoriasis) and skin cancer.
The ailments become noticeable through skin changes – for example growing moles, itching , pain and inflammatory reactions. But medicine now has a whole range of effective therapies and preventive measures ready.
Not all itchy redness is a skin disease
The doctor generally calls skin diseases dermatosis. If the skin has an inflammatory disease, it is known as dermatitis. The recognition and treatment of skin diseases is very complex, there is a specialist for this, the dermatologist (dermatologist).
Diseases of the body structures arising from the skin or lying within it (adnex organs), i.e. of hair, nails, sebum and sweat glands, are also counted among the skin diseases.
The treatment of sexually transmitted diseases also falls under the specialist field of dermatology. Dermatologists and skin doctor delhi also treat patients with AIDS , as venereologists – this has nothing to do with varicose veins , but describes the theory of sexually transmitted diseases – also the classic sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis , since these diseases also attach to the skin, but not skin diseases represent in the real sense. On the other hand, various diseases from the field of phlebology or angiology – that is the specialty that deals with vessels, including varicose veins – are classified here with the resulting skin symptoms such as leg ulcer .
Symptoms and complaints in skin diseases
Many skin diseases attract attention because the skin looks different from healthy skin in that area. One also speaks of the so-called “efflorescences”. A distinction is made between primary fluorescences such as spot (macula), nodules (papule), pus nodules (pustules), wheals (urticas), nodes (nodus) or plaque from secondary fluorescences such as crust, cracks (fissure, rhagade), flakes of skin (Squama), ulcer. Some of these efflorescences are otherwise not noticeable, while others also cause severe discomfort (itching, burning, pain).
Causes of Skin Diseases
The causes of skin diseases are diverse. In addition, the individual triggers can also work together to trigger a skin disease. Many people have a hereditary predisposition for the development of psoriasis or atopic eczema (neurodermatitis), but this can be aggravated by stress or another infection, and the course of the disease can in turn worsen by a bacterial or viral infection. In the case of many skin diseases, we still do not know the exact mechanism by which they develop, whereby in many cases regulatory disorders of the immune system and apoptosis are the causes.
Consequences and complications of skin diseases
The range of severity levels of skin diseases is just as broad as the spectrum of skin diseases themselves. There are many “skin diseases” that are more cosmetically disturbing, but otherwise completely harmless, such as the so-called “age wart”.
Inflammatory skin diseases are often troublesome with itching or pain. In addition, the psychological stress increases for many patients because they are very stigmatized by the skin disease.
Skin diseases such as skin cancer can be fatal if left untreated; black skin cancer (malignant melanoma ) is in some cases incurable, even despite adequate treatment. Many skin diseases can also result in very serious therapies, which in turn become problematic due to their side effects.
Treatment of skin diseases
Lighter skin conditions (such as an allergic rash) can be treated with anti-inflammatory ointments or creams. Some of these ointments contain disinfectant ingredients or cortisone and should only be used for a short time because of their side effects. The advantage is that the active ingredient only works locally, i.e. only where it is needed. In addition, the right choice of base (ointment, cream, paste, solution, lotion) can achieve additional effects.
More serious skin diseases often do not respond to local therapy with ointments or creams alone. Systemic drugs are also used here, in tablet form or in infusions, which can have side effects. Infectious skin diseases caused by bacteria or viruses also require the administration of antibiotics or similar agents.
Skin cancer is often surgically removed as a precaution. For this purpose, the skin can be cut out with a laser or the affected skin area with a safety edge or punched out. In advanced cases, radiation or chemotherapy is also used.
The Department of Dermatology
Our clinic has specialized in the treatment of patients with acute and chronic skin diseases for many decades. The dermatological treatment combines the tradition of bath and light therapy with the latest medicine and research.
medical offer
Chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis (psoriasis) and neurodermatitis , but also chronic itching, stress many people physically and mentally. For these and numerous other skin diseases, we have achieved lasting healing successes with our treatments.
Our natural remedies, sulfur mineral water and thermal brine, together with the largest light equipment park in Europe, form the basis for a successful photo balneo therapy . After healing baths, the patients receive a light therapy that is personally tailored to them. So even stubborn and supposedly therapy-resistant psoriasis and eczema diseases subside.
Dermatology has made great strides in recent years, and so we offer our patients not only proven medical concepts but also the most modern therapeutic approaches. We offer interested patients access to innovative dermatological therapies through CLINICAL STUDIES (focus on chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis, neurodermatitis, rosacea and many more). As part of our numerous research projects (also in close scientific cooperation with the Münster University Dermatology Clinic), we are involved in rehabilitation, for example, on the topics of psoriasis, chronic pruritus (itching) such as prurigo, as well as skin tumors such as black and white skin cancer and skin lymphomas.
Outpatient operations , laser therapy and aesthetic corrections complete our medical offer. We also have special expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies, skin tumors and chronic wounds.
